🌾 We're going paddle boarding on the Norfolk broads, and you're invited!

Hi, we’re Joshua & India the founders of Paddle Up - a stand up paddle boarding school in Surrey.

We’re excited to announce a two night SUP Retreat in the picturesque Norfolk Broads, making new friends, watching the stars, and exploring new waterways; Barton Broad, Wroxham Broad, The River Ant and The River Bure.

Join us from 7th - 9th June one of our favourite destinations in the world. Our SUP Retreats are designed as an opportunity to retreat from the hustle and bustle and reconnect with nature. With small group sizes and an emphasis on having fun outdoors, these retreats are an opportunity for you to meet new people and explore new parts of the UK.

For more information regarding the itinerary or how to book, please visit our booking page. But not before taking a quick read about the trip below.

About the paddle routes

Kicking off with a Saturday paddle from Wayford Bridge, paddling down stream on the River Ant, towards Barton broad and around Irstead Staithe and Neatishead Staithe. But not before passing a gorgeous historic grade 2 listed wind pump; Hunsett Mill, and the award winning mill house featured on Grand Designs, take a peek here. The pump has stood since 1698, and the house was residence for the keeper of the mill until 1900.

This will take us past the Norfolk broads yacht club, famous for their regattas and traditional broad sailing vessels. We will exit from the north which will take us onto the beautiful River Bure.

History of the broads

The lakes were formed by the flooding of peat workings. (Peat was used as a fuel in the middle ages). For many years it was believed that the lakes on the broads were natural, only to be proven to be man made by Dr Joyce Lambert in the 1950/1960’s. The lakes are now known to be flooded medieval peat excavation.

The Norfolk broads are divided into two areas, the northern and southern broads. The broads are made up from a network of natural rivers and man-made lakes and consist of 125 miles of lock free waterways - a paddle boarders dream eh? In total there are 7 rivers and 63 broads covering an area of 117 square miles. The broads are in Norfolk and Suffolk but known as the Norfolk broads.

If you’d like to learn more, there’s a fantastic virtual museum here.
